TV channel for people with dementia — LiveTV from VilMer

A safe alternative to regular TV

Many nursing homes today have regular TV switched on out of habit, which often shows unwanted news segments and ad breaks — a problem for people with dementia who may experience anxiety because of it.

Why isn't regular TV always a good idea?

People in nursing homes often perceive visual and auditory impressions more slowly and can have difficulty sorting stimuli. Fast cuts, sound effects and ads are examples of "high-risk TV" that can create significant insecurity and anxiety in cases of dementia or cognitive impairment.

What should be watched instead?

Films from Digital Experiences, produced in "minute by minute" format, chosen according to residents' interests such as profession, hobby, animals, travel or nature. A calm film from the "Find Peace" category can provide a pleasant start to the day.

Where is the service used today?

Hattstugan in southern Gotland, owned by Silviahemmet, was first in Sweden. The service is now also used in Gothenburg, Örebro and Staffanstorp.
