Amagami Ham Ham – a playful tactile experience
Amagami Ham Ham is a soft robot that recreates the feeling of gentle, playful nibbling from a puppy or kitten. Carefully place a finger in its mouth and feel the soft nibbling movement.

How Amagami Ham Ham works
A sensor detects the finger and starts different nibbling movements through the HAMling system. The soft, flexible lower jaw provides a gentle physical response.
- Powered by three AA batteries: alkaline or rechargeable nickel-metal hydride.
- No built-in charging system.
- No sound or voice function, although a faint motor sound may be heard.
With around eight minutes of daily use, the batteries last approximately three months according to the product information. Battery life depends on use.
The idea behind the nibbling robot
Amagami Ham Ham was born during Yukai Engineering’s internal makerthon in 2020. The team was inspired by the memory of a baby or young pet playfully nibbling a finger.
The result was a small, soft robot that makes this brief, playful contact possible in everyday life.

How does Amagami Ham Ham respond?
The product provides gentle, repeated tactile feedback when a finger is placed in its mouth according to the instructions.
What should I do if it does not respond?
Check that the power switch is on and that the batteries are inserted correctly with the right polarity. Wait a short while between each time you insert your finger.
Can Amagami Ham Ham be washed?
No. The electronics cannot be removed. The surface can be wiped with a well-wrung damp towel according to the care instructions.
Is Amagami Ham Ham suitable for dementia or loneliness?
It can be used as a playful tactile activity for someone who enjoys the sensation. Adapt the introduction to the person and let their own response guide its use.
