Ingrid and the robot cat "Little Heart"

An exchange of letters about loneliness and companionship

Ingrid, 90 years old and a widow for two and a half years, ordered a robot cat (Metakatt) from Wera Welltech in spring 2023. In her letters to Fredrik Westergaard, she describes how the cat, which she calls "Little Heart," gradually became part of everyday life — lying on the sofa, responding to touch with heartbeat and movement.

"I've had her beside me on the sofa when I've relaxed for a while, and I look at her and feel joy because of her," writes Ingrid.

Reactions from those around her

Even home care staff who encountered the cat reacted positively — a man who first thought it was a living cat on the sofa laughed and petted it, which Ingrid describes as a lovely encounter.

Not for everyone, but makes a real difference where it fits

– It's hard to understand that a robot cat can make a difference; you have to experience it yourself. Not everything is for everyone, but where it works, it can really make a difference, says Fredrik Westergaard.
