Welfare technology & e-health – for a good life throughout life
Welfare technology is not about technology — it is about people. Improving wellbeing and using digital tools to maintain independence and a sense of safety.
Definition
“Welfare technology is digital technology intended to maintain or increase safety, activity, participation or independence for a person who has, or is at increased risk of developing, a disability.”
— The Swedish National Board of Health and WelfareThe Swedish STAD mnemonic
A perspective for everyone
Many people think disabilities affect only a small group, but in fact 25% of the adult population has reading difficulties and more than half a million people have mobility impairments. We also often forget that disabilities can be:
- Permanent: Blindness, for example.
- Temporary: An eye injury that heals over time.
- Situational: Trying to read a phone screen in bright sunlight.
We can all benefit from welfare technology at different stages of life!
